Dublin Regional Homeless Executive figures released today show an increase of 1,131 people homeless in Dublin.
Sinn Féin Leader on Dublin City Council Daithí Doolan slammed the Government for the increase in homelessness in Dublin.
Speaking in Dublin today Cllr. Daithí Doolan said:
“The figures released today by the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive should shame this Government. There are 1,131 more people homeless in Dublin now than there was twelve months ago. Sadly this shocking figure includes 431 children. No child should be homeless in Dublin today. Every child, every family should have somewhere to call home.
“This increase is totally unacceptable. And is equally avoidable. It is as a direct result of the total inaction and incompetence of the Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien. He continues to spin and pedal misinformation in an attempt to distract from the deepening housing crisis in Dublin. The minister has now become part of the problem. Minister O’Brien needs to resign, along with the whole self-serving Government. Only a General election will resolve the housing crisis.
“Dublin urgently needs a government that works to deliver social and real affordable housing to meet the needs of this city. Unfortunately until this happens we will continue to endure a deepening housing crisis and an ever growing number of families and children facing into homelessness.
“The good news is that with the right Government and the right policies we can make homelessness history. That means building council and real affordable to buy and to rent housing.”
