Health Minister should lever-in private health care capacity to treat cancer patients – Gildernew

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has called on the Health Minister to lever-in private health care capacity to provide treatment for cancer patients and others with life-threatening conditions whose procedures have been cancelled due to COVID pressures.

Colm Gildernew said:

“News that yet more cancer treatments are being cancelled as a result of the pressures brought about by COVID-19 will be extremely worrying for patients and their families.

“I know those concerns are shared by the hard-working doctors, nurses and health workers looking after them who are all under intense pressure at this time.

“Many of these cancer patients and others with life threatening conditions need treatment urgently and simply cannot wait.

“I am calling on the Health Minister to use the available funding to lever in private health care treatment for cancer patients and others with life threatening conditions.

“I am submitting an urgent Assembly question calling on Robin Swann to do this immediately.”
