Harris has been deliberately misleading the public on Children’s Hospital fiasco – David Cullinane

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Health, David Cullinane, has said that Simon Harris has been misleading the public about his role in the fiasco of the National Children’s Hospital.

He said Fine Gael are increasingly resorting to blatant attempts to mislead the public in an effort to rescue the party’s disastrous election campaign.

“Fine Gael are increasingly resorting to blatant attempts to mislead the public in an effort to rescue the party’s disastrous election campaign.

“Not only are Fine Gael seeking to misrepresent the positions of my party but also trying to cover up for their actions over the past number of years in government.

“One of the most egregious examples has been the attempt by Simon Harris to deny his responsibility for the Children’s Hospital.

“This morning we witnessed the Taoiseach being forced to eat his own words from the Leaders’ debate where he denied, in front of the entire nation, that he signed off on the Children’s Hospital.

“Let’s be clear. Simon Harris was the Minister for Health who approved the contract and finance for the National Children’s Hospital which has ballooned in costs making it one of the most expensive hospitals in the world.

“He approved phase 1 for the National Children’s Hospital in 2017. He then gave his seal of approval to phase 2 in 2018. So, the Fine Gael leader signed off on this fiasco not once but twice.

“Simon Harris had been misleading the public in a desperate attempt to disguise his role in this debacle.

“Fine Gael need to stop misleading the people about their role in government and start taking responsibility for their actions and their policies.”
