Hargey condemns racist attack

Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey has condemned a ‘deplorable’ attack on a man last night in the Castlereagh area.

The South Belfast MLA said:

“This was a deplorable attack on an innocent man walking through a park on Sunday evening.

“Thankfully, the man was not injured, although this is yet another example of the disgusting sporadic racist violence which we have seen across the city over the last week.

“Police are treating the incident as a racially motivated hate crime and have appealed for information.

“I will continue to reach out and work with all communities to eradicate the stain of racism and to ensure Belfast is a welcoming and vibrant place for all who live and visit here.”
