Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has said the Health Minister must urgently bring forward a plan to support struggling GP practices.
Reacting to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General on access to general practice across the north, the party’s health spokesperson said:
“To retain our much-valued GPs, they must be paid fairly. This is key to making general practice an attractive place to work in on a long-term basis.
“The over-reliance on temporary doctors and staff must change. We need to properly invest in our GPs and ensure they are treated fairly.
“I would urge the Health Minister to bring forward a plan to deal with staffing issues; not just to recruit staff, but also to retain them.
“We must do all we can to support GP services and to ensure they can deliver vital services.”
