Sinn Féin spokesperson on Finance, Pearse Doherty TD, has called on government to scrap their plans to increase the price of petrol and diesel once again on the 1^st of August.

Speaking in the Dáil today, Teachta Doherty said:

“As workers and families continue to struggle with the high cost of living Tánaiste, your government plan to increase the price of petrol and diesel once again on the 1^st of August.

“At a time when every effort should be made to reduce living costs for households, you plan to increase them. Fuel prices remain much higher than they were a few years ago – yet you want to increase them further.

“These price hikes will hit those who have no choice but to use the car to get to and from work – to make their hospital appointment – to leave their children to school.

“We in Sinn Féin are calling on you to see sense, to give workers and families a break, and call off these senseless price hikes which will only make life more expensive for ordinary workers and families. Will you?”
