Government party candidates must tell the truth on Western Rail Corridor position – MEP MacManus
Sinn Féin MEP calls on government party candidates to put their money where their mouths are
The Sinn Féin MEP for Midlands North-West, Chris MacManus, has called on government candidates for the European elections to put their money where their mouths are regarding the Western Rail Corridor.
Speaking from Sligo, MacManus said:
“I was delighted to attend a West on Track conference last week, which heard a strong case for reopening the Western Rail Corridors Galway to Sligo line.
“I fully support reopening of the Galway to Sligo line, with a view to eventually including Donegal and Derry, which would give people across our island a real all-island Rail service.
“Sinn Féin are fully committed to reopening the Western Rail Corridor, and a strong team of Sinn Féin MEPs would work night and day at national and European level to see this project reopened.
“I am therefore calling on European election candidates from the government parties to now put their money where their mouths are and to commit their own and their parties support for reopening the Western Rail Corridor.
“The people of West and North-West know better to pay heed to government candidates wish to divorce themselves from their governments failures for the people of this region.
“Therefore, if they are truly committed to reopening the Western Rail Corridor, they should have no issue with their parties publicly committing to doing so. ENDS
