Government must listen to the demands for a genuine 100% Redress Scheme for defective block homeowners – Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD

Speaking after attending the huge public meeting of defective block homeowners last night, Donegal Sinn Féin TD, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has called on the government parties to finally listen to those affected families in Donegal and deliver a genuine 100% Redress Scheme.

Teachta Mac Lochlainn said:

“I commend the campaign leaders who organised last night’s meeting. The huge attendance of over 1,000 people sent a clear message to the government representatives in Donegal who have argued that this latest scheme is good and fair.

“The message was loud and clear for all to hear. This latest grant scheme will leave behind the large majority of families and force all the other families to pay out tens of thousands of euro.

“The government now needs to listen and act.

“Our Sinn Féin team are giving a clear commitment that if we are in government, we will deliver a genuine 100% Redress Scheme for all of the homeowners living in their primary principal residence and for landlords with one property, delivered by the State, from start to finish, rather than a grant scheme.

“This will be a like for like re-build to modern standards with an option for self build, if the homeowner wishes.

“We have committed to working with the campaign leaders on implementing their “People’s Document”.

“From our perspective, the door is open to find a solution for everyone. For all property owners who are currently excluded from the scheme, there will be a need to assess how many affected properties there are and then, to develop a scheme that would work for them”.
