Gildernew welcomes new guidance for hospital visits

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has welcomed confirmation that the Department of Health will update visiting guidance for maternity services and care homes.

The Fermanagh/South Tyrone MLA said:

“The current guidance on visiting at care homes and for maternity services has caused worry and pain for many families.

“I have raised this issue with the minister, and I welcome that the guidance is now set to be updated by the Department.

“Receiving a visit from a loved one while in a care home or hospital is an important part of the healing process for many patients.

“While it’s vital public health and safety regulations are observed, more can be done to explore alternative arrangements that would safely allow greater access and support to patients and relatives.”
