Former Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the late President Jimmy Carter who died on Sunday.
Gerry Adams said:
“I had the good fortune to meet President Carter and his wife Rosalynn during a visit to the Carter Centre in Atlanta in March 2001. They were both very welcoming and deeply interested in the Irish peace process.
“President Carter was a strong support of the peace process and of the sGood Friday Agreement.
“During his time in office and since then he worked tirelessly as an advocate for human rights, peace and the environment. He was recognised for this in 2002 when he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts and his work for human rights.”
