Gardaí must be given all necessary support to end scenes of intimidation at Malahide Road – Pa Daly TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice, Pa Daly TD, has said that An Garda Síochána must be given all necessary support to end the scenes of violence and intimidation at Malahide Road.

Deputy Daly was commenting after further disturbances this evening saw Garda cars attacked and roads blocked preventing buses and cars from returning home through the area.

Teachta Daly said:

“The scenes we witnessed this morning of arson attacks and acts of criminality have been rightly condemned.

“Sadly this evening there have been further escalations, with Garda vehicles attacked and roads blocked, preventing workers and families from returning home through the area.

“This is a community under attack from people determined to spread fear and hate.

“The vast majority of decent people want nothing to do with it. They want to feel safe in their homes, and they want the mindless violence and intimidation to stop immediately.

“No matter what grievances people may have, they do not have the right to hold local communities to ransom with violence and intimidation.

“I welcome that arrests have been made, and what we need to see now is An Garda Síochána given all necessary support to bring order to the streets and to bring those responsible for today’s mayhem to justice.”
