Flynn welcomes support for reducing stigma surrounding mental ill-health

Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn has welcomed cross-party support for a motion on taking action to reduce stigma around mental illness.

The party’s mental health spokesperson said:

“I welcome the cross-party support for this important motion on reducing the stigma surrounding mental ill-health.

“We all recognise the urgent need to address the stigma surrounding mental ill-health and improve support for those who need it most.

“This is an issue that affects every community across the north, and it is vital we stand united in our commitment to tackle it.

“I would also like to acknowledge the work done by the Minister of Health to date. Progress has been made, but we must now build on this to ensure that no one, regardless of where they live or their background, feels isolated or unsupported when facing mental health challenges.

“The Mental Health Strategy provides us with a valuable framework, but we need to keep pushing forward with practical measures to reduce stigma and make mental health services more accessible.

“Let us continue to work together to ensure that everyone who faces mental health difficulties can seek help without fear of judgement or discrimination.”
