Sinn Féin MP John Finucane has welcomed the official confirmation that Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann will come to Belfast in 2026.
The festival is the world’s largest celebration of Irish music, culture, language and heritage, and it will be the first time it has come to the city.
“Today’s announcement is hugely exciting and marks an important, historic milestone in the ongoing transformation of Belfast.
“Our city will come alive with energy, joy and positivity during this week-long programme of events to celebrate our rich heritage, traditions and culture.”
Fleadh Cheoil is forecast to generate tens of millions of pounds for the economy, as well as attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.
The North Belfast MP spoke of the impact this will have.
“This will be a game changer for our people and communities, and will provide a significant boost to our economy, supporting business and jobs.
“Sinn Féin has long campaigned to bring this celebration to Belfast, and I now look forward to it becoming a reality in 2026.
“Let’s get ready to welcome the world.”
