Fianna Fáil manifesto not credible and doesn’t stack up – Pearse Doherty

Responding to the publication of Fianna Fáil’s manifesto, Sinn Féin’s Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty said:

“Fianna Fáil’s manifesto is just not credible and simply doesn’t stack up.

“It’s clear we are back to the days of policy on the back of an envelope with Fianna Fáil.

“A quick comparison of five of their tax measures with published online costings from Revenue shows that they would cost more than €1bn more than Fianna Fáil have allocated.

“When it comes to Health, their capital commitment is €2.5bn less than what is needed, meaning vital projects would be in jeopardy if Fianna Fáil is returned to government.  All local projects, big and small, will be in doubt under their plan.

“It’s clear they’ve given up on housing altogether.  Planning to deliver less houses than the Housing Commission said are needed. They propose allocating just €5.5bn additional when over €20bn is needed to really tackle the housing crisis.

“The claim they will increase garda numbers to 20,000 by recruiting 5,000 Gardaí is ridiculous.  About 500 people leave the force in a year, so they must be planning to cancel retirements outright.”
