Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael blocking development in the Midlands North West – MacManus
The Sinn Féin MEP for the Midlands North West, Chris MacManus, has hit out at successive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael governments for their failure to properly invest in the Midlands North West and facilitate the region in harnessing its full potential.
MacManus was speaking in Galway, at an election hustings organised by the employer representatives group, IBEC.
MacManus said:
“The Midlands North West has huge potential, but this is stifled by a lack of investment by successive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael governments.
“When I hear Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael representatives speak, I sometimes think they’re more interested in investing in EU militarisation and diluting Irish neutrality, than they are in investing in regions such as the Midlands North West.
“We see huge deficiencies here when it comes to the provision of housing and transport in particular.
“Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have had a century between them to sufficiently invest in the region to assist us to reach our full potential.
“We in Sinn Féin are committed to delivering large scale investment on transport projects like fully reopening the Western Rail Corridor, completely connecting the West and North-West to the rest of the island.
“We in Sinn Féin are also committed to the largest ever delivery of social and affordable housing in the history of the state.
“We need change in order to harness the full potential of the Midlands North West and we in Sinn Féin are ready to deliver that change. ENDS
