Europe cannot continue to be complicit in arming Israel’s genocide – Lynn Boylan MEP

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has said that the European Union must end its complicity in arming and providing diplomatic cover for genocide, and must immediately suspend trade and impose sanctions on Israel.

Speaking in the European Parliament today, the Dublin MEP condemned Israel’s latest assault on Lebanon and for jeopardising the safety of UNIFIL peacekeepers, adding that it represented yet another dangerous escalation of a regime that has a total disregard for civilian lives.

MEP Boylan said:

“The people of Gaza are marking one whole year of genocide, one year of brutal violence meted out on civilians.

“Following the recent rulings from ICJ, the EU must now take action. They must suspend trade and impose sanctions.

“The attack on Lebanon by Israel represents a dangerous escalation. It shows blatant disregard for civilian lives.

“Ireland is a neutral country. We have a proud history of peacekeeping in Lebanon.

“On Sunday, Israel repeatedly ignored UNIFIL’s warnings that they were compromising the safety of peacekeepers; yet another example of Israel’s complete and utter disregard for its international obligations.

“Europe cannot continue to be complicit in arming Israel, in trading with Israel. They must stop providing diplomatic cover for a regime that violates human rights and international law.

“Humanity demands that we fight for human rights everywhere, not just when it’s politically convenient.”
