Education Minister must review procurement policy for schools – Mason

Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason today welcomed the passing of a motion from her party in the Assembly calling on the Education Minister to conduct a review of the Education Authority’s procurement policy for schools.

The South Down MLA said:

“When schools face issues such as a broken boiler or mould on the walls, they faced an over-complicated and often lengthy process to rectify this.

“That is why Sinn Féin has brought forward this motion to the Assembly calling on the Education Minister to review the existing procurement policy which is hindering schools from acting fast when purchasing goods or services.

“We must ensure we are doing everything we can to support schools, who give our children the best opportunities to learn, thrive and flourish in their early years.

“I welcome the cross-party support for this motion, and will continue to speak up for schools and teachers, and work with them to enable our children to reach their full potential in life.”
