Education minister must go back to the drawing board with “RAISE” programme – Sheehan

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has called on the education minister to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new plan to tackle educational underachievement.

The West Belfast MLA said:

“I’m disappointed that despite the concerns raised by myself and others, including many school principals, the education minister is continuing with his flawed RAISE Programme.

“How is it that a fee paying prep school that charges £5,000 a year can be included in a programme which is supposed to support underachieving children and young people?

“There are schools in working class areas crying out for support but under this bizarre plan, they will be left behind.

“Sinn Féin will continue to challenge the DUP minister on this and ensure our children and young people get the support that they need.”
