Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD has been appointed by Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD as the party Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence as part of a new Sinn Féin front bench.
The Cork South-Central TD said:
“I am very honoured to have been named by Mary Lou McDonald as the new Sinn Féin spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence.
“I am very excited to take on this portfolio at an important time for Ireland.
“I will be keen to use this role to emphasise the opportunities for trade with Ireland and job creation and inward investment in Ireland, as well as in Cork.
“In this portfolio, I will also be keen to ensure that Ireland uses its voice to speak for justice and to speak up for what’s right in Palestine, and across the world.
“This portfolio also includes the area of Defence and I know that many men and women of the Defence Forces are struggling to make ends meet due to a failure to support our Defence Forces. I will be vocal in speaking on their behalf.
“Is mór an onóir gur ainmníodh mar urlabhraí Shinn Féin ar Gnóthaí Eachtracha mé. Déanfaidh mé mo dhícheall an fód a sheasamh don rud atá ceart agus guth láidir a thabhairt d’Éirinn.”
