Dillon calls for action to protect care home residents

Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has said the Health Minister must take action following a new report from the commissioner for older people.

The party’s social care spokesperson said:

“The new report by the commissioner is concerning and raises issues which some families experience when a loved one is living in a care home.

“Evictions from care homes have a real life impact on both the residents and also their families. These are their homes and often leave residents and their families with nowhere to turn or go, and can be deeply distressing.

“The Health Minister must ensure these calls are heeded and that we also have enough beds to meet demand in care homes.

“I will work with all parties and the Minister to tackle these issues and to ultimately ensure families and their loved ones do not have to experience these unacceptable problems.”
