Dublin Sinn Féin City Councillor and EU candidate Daithí Doolan has said that the ongoing staffing crisis in Dublin Fire Brigade is putting lives in danger after confirmation that a lack of personnel kept trucks off the road yesterday.
Cllr Doolan said:
“The ongoing staffing crisis in Dublin Fire Brigade reached new levels yesterday with a number of fire trucks and appliances being kept off the road and key personnel not in place in Dublin.
“The lack of personnel on Saturday meant that there was no District Officer for the Donnybrook/Dun Laoghaire district, fire trucks were off the road in Donnybrook and North Strand, while the high-rise platform was out of service in Dun Laoghaire.
“This is totally unacceptable. The staffing crisis needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. The fire service is an essential service, and the lack of personnel is putting the lives of the public at risk.
“The Government must provide funding and training to ensure Dublin Fire Brigade can recruit and retain enough staff to adequately run the fire service.”
