Delivering more social homes must be a priority – Ferguson

Sinn Féin MLA Ciara Ferguson has called on the Communities Minister to publish a housing supply strategy.

Speaking after hearing from both the Housing Executive and the Department for Communities’ housing and sustainability group, the party’s housing spokesperson said:

“Today it was confirmed that our social housing stock, which was previously double the current level, is declining at an unsustainable rate.

“Sinn Féin have consistently called for a transformation in our housing system to allow the Housing Executive to start building homes again, at scale, to meet the needs of people here.

“Housing is a human right, and we must work to deliver safe, decent, social and affordable housing as a priority.

“I would urge the Communities Minister to urgently publish a housing supply strategy and a timeline for its delivery.”
