Delargy welcomes rights for workers to switch off

Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy has welcomed the Portuguese government’s ban on texts and emails outside of working hours.

The Foyle MLA has said his Work-Life Balance Bill now needs to be passed to give workers a break.

Pádraig Delargy said:

“There is growing support in governments across the world for workers to have a legal right to switch off outside of working hours.

“Workers should not feel obliged to answer calls, texts or emails outside their office hours which leads to work-related stress and anxiety.

“My Work-Life Balance bill will give workers legal protections from this contact outside of their working hours.

“The way we work has changed for many during the pandemic. It is vital that we make sure our worker’s rights reflect this going forward.”
