Sinn Féin spokesperson on Public Expenditure, Rose Conway-Walsh TD, has welcomed the ongoing debate on the economics of Ireland Unity.
Speaking ahead of today’s Good Friday Agreement Committee, the Mayo TD said:
“It warms my heart to see the debate on Irish Unity heating up. I am looking forward to challenging the ‘but we can’t afford it’ myth.
At today’s GFA committee, contributions and insights will be given by Professor Séamus McGuinness, Dr Adele Bergin, and Professor John Doyle, and I welcome all academic contributions to this debate.
“The Good Friday Agreement Committee for months have been looking into all aspect of the economic and financial implication of Irish Unity.
“The contributions this week make it clear that Irish Unity is not only affordable but an economic opportunity for sustainable growth and prosperity.
“This session concludes our hearings on the All-Ireland Economy. The final report will be published in the coming weeks.”
