Sinn Féin Leader on Dublin City Council has said that the newly-formed Progressive Alliance on Dublin City Council offers a real alternative to the conservative politics of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
The Alliance consists of Sinn Féin, Social Democrats, Independents and People Before Profit, and has agreed a progressive programme of work for the five-year term of Dublin City Council.
Cllr. Daithí Doolan said:
“I am delighted to confirm that a Progressive Alliance has been formed on Dublin City Council.
“The Alliance will be proposing Cllr. Daniel Ennis and Cllr. Janice Boylan for Mayor and Deputy Mayor at tomorrow’s Dublin City Council annual general meeting.
“This Progressive Alliance offers a great opportunity for the people of Dublin. It offers a real alternative to the conservative politics of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
“Our programme for the next five years aims to deliver a City for all. Tackling the housing crisis, developing safe communities, improving and expanding public services are the cornerstones of this important agreement.
“Unfortunately, the Green Party and Labour Party have not committed to supporting the Alliance. This is very shortsighted. I would strongly encourage them to support our five-year programme rather than propping up Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
“Sinn Féin are committed to working with other parties and the council management to deliver on this agreement. I would strongly encourage others to work with us too.”
