Sinn Féin TD for Cork South-Central, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire has called the retendering of the Cork Events Centre, 8 years after the sod was first turned, a complete farce.
Raising the issue in the Dáil this afternoon with Minister for Housing and Local Government, Darragh O’Brien, Teachta Ó Laoghaire said,
“A Aire, on Monday it was announced that the tender for the Cork Events Centre would have to reopened and retendered.
“That’s eight years and 4 Taoisigh since the sod was turned on that site.
“It was turned by Enda Kenny, eight years ago in February 2016.
“The people of Cork are heartily full of this. Really exhausted by this farce really and it is a farce at this stage.
“Minister, what I want to ask you, is in terms of how we go forward from here. What kind of tender will it be? Will it be an open tender?
“Is it possible to recoup the €1.5 million that has already been spent on this. €1.5 million has been spent on this without a brick being laid!
“Do you accept that the process engaged in from the outset was clearly flawed?”
