Closure of Ulster Bank branches a blow to the community

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has said the closure of ten Ulster Bank branches across the north is a blow to workers and communities.

The party’s finance spokesperson said:

“The announced closure of ten Ulster Bank branches is a blow to local communities, particularly for the workers in those banks and their families.

“Local branches are a vital service for both small businesses and personal banking.

“The loss of these branches will cause huge disruption, particularly for people in rural communities who will now have to travel further to access a bank, and for people who are unable to use online banking.

“Sinn Féin is calling for a future banking forum to look at how banks and organisations can best respond to serve customers and communities that rely on their services as they transition to new methods of banking.”
