Sinn Féin spokesperson on Sport, Chris Andrews TD, and TD for Kerry, Pa Daly, have today expressed their deep sadness following the death of legendary broadcaster and GAA commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
The Sinn Féin deputies extended their condolences to Mícheál’s wife Helena, their eight children, and to his extended family, friends and former RTÉ colleagues.
Teachta Andrews said:
“I was deeply saddened at the news today of the death of legendary broadcaster and GAA commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
“Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh was the definition of a one-off.
“He was a legend who lived and breathed Gaelic Games and who will be so sorely missed by GAA fans the length and breadth of the country.
“Mícheál’s inimitable style brought games to life, and his unmistakable voice and unique way with words was part of the soundtrack to so many people’s summers in a broadcasting career that spanned a remarkable six decades.”
Teachta Daly said:
“A proud Kerry man, Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh is irreplaceable.
“He meant the world to so many who I know will all have his wife Helena and his children in their thoughts today.
“My deepest sympathy and condolences, and that of everyone in Sinn Féin are with Helena, their three sons, their five daughters, grandchildren and extended family, and also with his former RTÉ colleagues.
