Children and young people with special educational needs deserve best start to life – Baker

Sinn Féin MLA Danny Baker has called on the Education Minister to transform the special educational needs system.

Speaking following a meeting of the Education Committee on Wednesday, the party’s children and young people’s spokesperson said:

“Young people with special educational needs and their families must have access to properly funded and first class support services.

“There is an urgent need for special educational needs services to be transformed, ensuring they support the individual needs of each young person and their family.

“Too many young people and their parents are being failed by the current system. It is time for the Education Minister to act on his commitment to transform the special educational needs system.

“I am committed to working with all parties and the Minister to modernise this system and to ensure children with special educational needs have the best start to life.”
