Brogan welcomes launch of project to tackle blue-green algae

Sinn Féin MLA Nicola Brogan today welcomed the launch of a research project which aims to help provide solutions to addressing blue-green algae.

The party’s environment spokesperson said:

“I welcome the launch of this project which will look at ways we can best tackle toxic blue-green algae in our waterways.

“This is an important pillar of the Executive’s Lough Neagh action plan to address the issues and find solutions, and I am pleased to see progress on that.

“Recent weeks have reinforced the urgent need to tackle the issues facing Lough Neagh and its surrounding waterways once and for all, with algae resurges continuing.

“I will continue to work with others to help reduce the algae blooms and to ensure Lough Neagh once again becomes a thriving waterway for all to enjoy.”
