British government should provide proper funding to support children with special educational needs – Sheehan

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has said the Assembly should be restored to ensure the delivery of a new special educational needs school in Belfast and 450 new places created.

The party’s education spokesperson said:

“It’s welcome that the Department of Education has approved a plan to build a new special school in Belfast alongside the expansion of the Harberton school.

“Given the demand for places in these schools; it’s positive that this investment will also create 450 more school places to support children with special educational needs.

“We need the Assembly restored now to ensure this is delivered and the funding is in place to get construction started on this hugely important project.

“The British government should provide proper funding for education and work to restore the Executive so parties can work together to support children with special educational needs.”
