British government should provide proper funding rather than decimating public services – Sheehan

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has said it is extremely concerning that many schools are facing an unsustainable financial position.

The party’s education spokesperson was commenting after the Education Authority revealed it is estimating it will have around £220m less than it needs this year to provide for children and young people.

Pat Sheehan said:

”The latest news about our school finances is extremely concerning and will leave many schools struggling to cover staff and running costs.

”This unsustainable financial situation is a direct result of savage Tory cuts, compounded by the DUP’s continued blockade of the Assembly.

“Rather than decimating public services, the British government should provide proper funding for public services like education, and work to restore the Executive so parties can work together to support children and young people.”
