Brady backs calls for action to protect the Taxi industry

Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Transport John Brady has backed calls to protect the Taxi industry, as its members attempt to cope with ever increasing costs, threats to safety, and fears over their livelihoods.

Brady said:

“Taxi drivers across the state are facing huge challenges. The government has done nothing to address the issues that the industry is facing. It is imperative that the voice of ordinary taxi drivers is heard on the challenges they are being forced to confront.

“There is a shortage of Taxis in the state, we can ill afford to have drivers leaving the industry in droves. Which is what will happen if nothing is done.
Industry representatives are calling for practical measures to be taken to deal with safety issues, ever increasing costs, and the ongoing threats to their livelihoods.

“Sinn Féin supports Taxi drivers, we understand the vital role that the industry plays within our communities. There are many people, particularly in rural Ireland, where public transport can be sparse, who are dependent on Taxis for transport.
I and my party are backing calls by industry leaders for greater levels of engagement to produce practical measures that will address the threats that the Taxi industry faces.”
