Sinn Féin’s Spokesperson for Transport Cathal Boylan MLA has welcomed increased MOT test availability.
He was speaking after new data from the Department for Infrastructure revealed there were more tests available in January of this year compared to any January in the past 10 years:
“These figures show a positive trend that more MOT tests are becoming available, helping to cut waiting times.
“Former Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd made solving the MOT backlog a priority, and Minister Kimmins is now continuing this important work.”
With a consultation currently live on changing the frequency of MOT testing from one year to two years for some vehicles, Mr Boylan also commented on the additional positive steps being taken to reduce motorists’ wait for a test:
“The minister is working hard to further increase MOT testing through recruitment of additional workers, operating on Sundays and bank holidays alongside other measures.
“As a member of the Infrastructure Committee, I’ll continue working alongside the minister and the other parties as we seek to reduce waiting times even further.”
