Boylan presses education minister to provide suitable facilities for Irish-medium schools

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has written to the education minister pressing him to provide suitable facilities for Irish-medium schools.

The Newry and Armagh MLA said:

“Record numbers of young people are attending Irish-medium schools, and this is vividly reflected in Armagh city, home to Armagh CBS and Coláiste Chaitríona.

“With this increased demand, it has also brought urgent challenges, particularly the lack of suitable facilities at Armagh CBS.

“While initial commitments from the Department of Education are a positive step, these fail to address the real and immediate needs of Irish-medium schools.

“Armagh CBS currently require two additional classrooms to accommodate their growing student population, I have urged the education minister to provide these facilities to meet demand.

“Irish education is flourishing in Armagh and across our island, and children learning through the medium of Irish deserve access to good-quality facilities.”
