Asda must do all that it can to protect as many jobs as possible – Mason

Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason has said Asda in Downpatrick must do all that it can to protect as many jobs as possible.

Speaking as Asda is set to temporarily operate a click and collect service, the South Down MLA said:

“I have been in direct contact with Asda in Downpatrick and have stressed the need to protect as many jobs as possible.

“The lead-in to Christmas is already a stressful time for many families and the last thing workers in Asda need is redundancy or reduced hours.

“I have also been in contact with independent retailers in Downpatrick who are worried this will have a further impact on them, with recent flooding already affecting footfall.

“I will continue to meet with Asda in the time ahead and urge them to retain workers, protect jobs, and ensure Downpatrick recovers from recent flooding as quickly as possible.”
