Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason has said delivering affordable childcare must be a priority to support workers and families.
Speaking after a party delegation met education and Executive Office officials, Sinn Féin’s childcare spokesperson said:
“The rising cost of childcare is a huge issue for workers and families, particularly with reports of some parents paying more than £550 per month.
“The cost of childcare is unaffordable and for many workers and families and is a barrier for parents going to work or advancing a career.
“Sinn Féin met with officials from the Executive Office and Department of Education on the need for progress on delivering affordable, accessible and quality childcare that gives families a fair deal.
“Parents and children can’t wait. Childcare providers can’t wait. We need the Assembly restored and parties working together to prioritise cutting childcare costs for families.”
