Sinn Féin’s Declan Kearney has congratulated St Ergnat’s GAC, Moneyglass upon the official opening of its new grounds at Loughbeg Road.
The South Antrim MLA said,
“I was delighted to join St Ergnat’s GAC, Moneyglass as it marked the official opening of the new Loughbeg Road grounds today.
“Led by the Clooney Band, hundreds of players, members, families and supporters paraded from McCoy’s Corner to the new pitch where GAA President Jarlath Burns performed the official opening.
“The ceremony was the highlight of a weekend of family and community focused celebrations, which included underage hurling, camogie and Gaelic football, family and children’s entertainment, and a marquee which hosted Irish dancing, Irish traditional music and refreshments.
“Just three years ago, I welcomed then Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey to the new site at Loughbeg Road, where work was underway to clear the ground for the new pitch. It is wonderful therefore to see that building site being transformed into a new state of the art pitch.
“Today was the culmination of years of planning and fundraising by Club members towards realising a much needed second pitch for St Ergnat’s GAC. Given its ever-increasing membership, the club had outgrown the facilities at its Taylorstown Road site. I am delighted that it can look forward to continued growth and success, as well as many new future opportunities.
“St Ergnat’s has been at the heart of the Moneyglass community for 75 years, promoting Gaelic games and culture and enriching the lives of all who participate, while building a sense of place, identity, and belonging. As with all GAA clubs, it is woven into the social fabric of the community it serves.
“This latest development is testament to the club management’s vision and resilience, and the support it draws from the surrounding Moneyglass heartland.
“I wish St Ergnat’s GAC all the success which it deserves. Here’s to the next 75 years, and future generations of Gaels who will go on to benefit as members of this outstanding club.”
