Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has accused Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael of ‘failing to deliver affordable homes’. His comments were made as information from the Department of Housing shows that 27 of the state’s 31 Local Authorities did not deliver a single affordable home in Q1 of this year.
Teachta Ó Broin said:
“In the first quarter of this year just 32 affordable homes were completed across four Local Authorities including Cork City, Fingal, Louth and South Dublin.
“27 of the state’s 31 Local Authorities did not complete a single affordable home in Q1 of this year.
“What this demonstrates is that, as with last year’s affordable housing output, the Government is failing to deliver affordable homes. In 2023,19 Local Authorities did not deliver a single affordable home to purchase.
“Not only are the Government’s targets too low and not being met, but many parts of the country are being left behind.
“This is one of the main reasons why house prices are continuing to rise and an entire generation of young people are unable to put an affordable roof over their head.
“This Government is just not serious about delivering affordable homes at scale and in every part of the country.”
