£25 million investment in childcare ‘step in right direction’ – Mason

Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason has said today’s announcement of a £25 million investment in childcare will help begin to make it more affordable.

The party’s childcare and early years spokesperson said:

“The Executive has agreed an initial £25 million to begin making childcare more affordable for parents, support struggling providers, and create more places for children with additional needs.

“Transforming childcare was a day-one priority for Sinn Féin and the Executive, and while there is much more work ahead, this is a positive step in the right direction.

“The high cost of childcare is a real burden for many families, leaving parents struggling to make ends meet after paying their bills.

“Other parents have even been forced to leave employment completely to care for their child, unable to keep up with their childcare bills.

“Families need and deserve our support.

“I am determined to keep working with all parties to reduce bills for parents, financially support providers, and ensure services are accessible for all.”
