Sinn Féin spokesperson on Transport, Martin Kenny TD, has expressed his sympathies to those who have lost loved ones on Irish roads in a day of devastation.
Teachta Kenny’s comments come as four lives – including a mother and her young daughter – were lost in 3 road collisions in under 24 hours.
Speaking today, Teachta Kenny said:
“First and foremost I want to extend my thoughts and sympathies to the families, friends, and communities who have lost four people they dearly cared for.
“Although we have seen road fatalities increase this year, that increase had seemed to slow in the last number of weeks. There was a feeling amongst many that perhaps we had begun to get the message out there about road safety.
“However, the last 24 hours have shown us that we as legislators, RSA officials, Garda management and indeed motorists cannot become complacent when it comes to the dangers facing us on the countries roads.
“Behind each of the lives lost is a family, a circle of friends, and a wider community who are left bereft and devastated.
“The past 24 hours of loss must act as a reminder to us all that each and every one of us has a role to play in continuing the conversation on road safety.”
