Emma Sheerin is 29, from Ballinascreen in South Derry, the daughter of a sheep farmer and an Irish language class– room assistant.
Having attended St Columba’s Primary in Straw and St Colm’s High, Ballinascreen, she then graduated with a 2:1 in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Queens University Belfast. She worked in retail and finance before spending time as PA to Francie Molloy MP, where her on the ground activism was consolidated with the workings of the constit- uency.
Growing up, she took inspiration from the work of the local Sinn Féin team, and she joined the party as a teen, deter– mined to play her part in establishing a new, fair and United Ireland.
She replaced Ian Milne as MLA in December 2018 and has been a voice for rural constituents since, representing South Derry and prioritising local delivery on, and support with; broadband, roads, healthcare, schools, and every– thing in between.
