Kathleen McGurk grew up in Dernaflaw and after a period in Australia, she returned home to Ireland in 2016. At this time she reignited her passion with politics by joining her local Sinn Fein team.

She attended QUB where she gained a BSc (Hons) Psychology and she also has qualifications in Health & Safety andEnvironmental Management. Since university Kathleen has worked within the construction industry as well as be- coming a mum to three daughters.

She became a councillor for the Benbradagh DEA by co-option in July 2018 and was re-elected in May 2019. She has served as the Sinn Féin lead for Planning Committee, Vice Chair of Corporate Policy and Land & Property Committees, as well as being a member of the Community Planning Forum.

Since becoming an elected representative she has been lobbying statutory agencies and working hard with many local groups to advance facilities and opportunities in the area.
