Danny Baker MLA (West Belfast)

Danny Baker has been a councillor in the Colin area since January 2019. As a community focused public representative, he is involved in many local campaigns and initiatives.

A father of three, Danny was born in Twinbrook and now lives in Lagmore and attended St Mark’s and St Colm’s Schools in the area.

He is on the management committee of Lagmore Youth Project and is a Volunteer Youth Worker in the area, helping to provide a crucial service for young people.  He works tirelessly on facilities and opportunities for young people, on road safety, and on environmental improvements in the area.

He has also been a strong supporter of the Irish language, marriage equality, LGBT rights, and women’s and workers’ rights and is deeply committed to the achievement of Irish unity.

As a Sinn Féin activist, Danny was centrally involved in the successful campaign to secure £15 million for the redevelopment of Brooke Leisure Centre.

He has also been actively involved in supporting local campaigns including the Sunflower campaign to raise awareness of Blood Cancer, and the Organ Donation campaign.

He is currently working to secure new youth facilities and school buildings in the Colin area.

Danny became Mayor of Belfast in January 2020 and used his term as Mayor to highlight the important issues of Climate and Youth engagement.

Danny has also served as the Chairperson of the People and Communities Committee in Belfast City Council and is currently chair of the council’s Brexit Committee. He has also chaired the West Belfast AreaWorking Group.
