Sinn Féin spokesperson on Health, David Cullinane TD, has said that the Minister for Health’s u-turn on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) fees is an important step towards genuinely free HRT, but that assurances on product availability and pharmacy participation are still needed.
The TD for Waterford said:
“The Minister for Health’s realisation that the not-actually-free HRT scheme was poorly thought-out is a welcome policy change.
“This is an important step towards genuinely free HRT, in line with the proposals which Sinn Féin had made from the outset.
“There are still concerns about pharmacy participation and product availability. The Minister must ensure that pharmacists accept and engage with the scheme, that the necessary IT and administrative supports are in place, that all of the appropriate care options are available under the scheme, and that the state is proactively securing the supply of HRT products, which are prone to shortages.”
