Hargey welcomes progress on Enabling Access to Justice Programme

Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey welcomes Minister for Justice announcement on progress on the Enabling Access to Justice Programme.

Speaking after the Justice Minister’s announcement the party’s justice spokesperson said:

“I welcome the news today that the Minister plans on introducing a number of other fee changes for legal aid including new fees for advice and representation including for asylum applicants and specialist support for victims of domestic abuse.

“The Minister has also outlined that the 16% uplift for legal aid is still on track to be introduced in May, this is an important intervention in bringing an end to ongoing industrial action by barristers and solicitors.

“I will continue to engage with the Minister on this issue, the provision of legal aid is important to ensure that everyone has fair access to legal support and justice.”Sinn Féin will continue to stand and protect the most vulnerable within our society.”
