Brogan comments on audit office waste report

Commenting on the Audit Office report on waste management, Nicola Brogan said:

“Detailed, accurate monitoring and recording of waste data is crucial if we are to reduce the amount of waste we produce, stop needless overproduction of certain goods, promote a circular economy and reach our climate targets.

“This report shows the excellent results that councils have had with waste targets as a direct result of the robust data that they collect.  Other agencies and industries must catch up and catch up quickly.

“It is particularly appalling that the NIEA is not required to track landfill capacities.

“I would urge the DAERA Minister to set out a definitive timeline for the publication of the long overdue Waste Management Strategy.”
